Local SEO that gets you into the map pack.

Three results sit above everything else on a phone. This is the work that decides which three, and a straight answer on whether yours is winnable.

The short answer

Local SEO decides whether you show up in the three map results at the top of a local search. Four things decide it: your Google profile, your reviews, the site behind them, and how close you are to the person searching. We fix the three you control, and we tell you straight when the fourth is the real problem.

Most Winnipeg trades never lose the map to a competitor who works harder. They lose it to a profile with two categories filled in, a service area that claims the whole province, and a website that never names the work. Google reads all three and quietly decides you are not the safest answer.

That is fixable, and it is a smaller job than ranking a whole website, which is why it costs less. A profile finished properly and then actually run, the listings behind it agreeing with each other, reviews that keep arriving and get answered, and the few pages that back up what the profile claims.

What is not fixable is distance. If the three winners all sit within a kilometre of the person searching and you are eleven kilometres out, no amount of posting moves you into that pack. You will hear that on the call, before you pay for anything, because it is the one input nobody sells and everybody charges for anyway.

Want the website ranking too, not just the profile? That is SEO in Winnipeg, and both run together in Local Launch.

How this actually runs
01
Read the packWho holds the three slots today, and what they have that you do not, before anyone touches anything.
02
Fix it, then feed itRebuilt in month one, then posted to and updated every week: jobs, offers, photos, hours.
03
Answer every reviewAn ask that runs after the job, and every review answered within a day, good or bad.
04
Watch the profileCalls, direction requests and searches, straight off your own profile, every month.
The real problem

Why the map pack keeps picking someone else.

Google is not guessing. It is reading a few sets of signals in a fixed order, and most profiles fail on the first two before anybody gets as far as the website. Here is the cause, and here is what it costs.

32%
Your profile is half built
Categories, services and service area carry roughly a third of what decides the map pack.
What happens
You never enter the auction for the jobs you actually want, so the ranking is decided without you.
20%
The reviews stopped
Reviews are about a fifth of it, and how recent they are counts for more than the total.
What happens
Nine quiet months reads as closed, and the landscaper with eleven fresh ones goes above you.
9%
Nobody taps anything
Calls, direction requests and photo views are signals in their own right.
What happens
A profile still showing 2019 photos gets scrolled past, and Google counts that against you.
46%
The map answers first
Nearly half of Google searches have local intent, and on a phone the map is what fills the screen.
What happens
You can rank on page one and still never be seen, because the decision happened above you.
20 cities
The service area is fiction
The profile claims half the province, the website names two neighbourhoods.
What happens
Google trusts neither version, so it trusts the appliance repair shop that only claims what it can prove.
6 listings
The name and number disagree
Old listings still carry the suite number you moved out of and the cell you stopped answering.
What happens
Every mismatch is one more reason to rank somebody whose details line up.

Weightings from BrightLocal's 2026 local search ranking factors. Local-intent share from Semrush. The sources are named because most pages selling this name none.

Who this is for

Built for people on the tools.

Home-service and trades, any size. Two-person crew or twenty trucks. If any of this sounds like you, we should talk.

01
You are not in the three map results
You search your own trade, the map shows three businesses, and you have to scroll to find yourself.
02
The calls go to whoever is on the map
Customers search on a phone, tap one of the three, and book the first crew that answers.
03
You paid an agency and got nothing back
You signed with the person who pitched you, then spent a year emailing an account manager who never had an answer.
04
Nothing online is sending you work yet
New crew, or just a Facebook page and a phone number. You need to exist online before you can rank.
The four inputs

Three of these are for sale. One is not.

This is the whole of local SEO, in the order it matters. Read the fourth one before you pay anybody, including us.

01Yours to fix

The profile

Categories, services, service area, hours, photos, questions, and then posts, offers and photos going up every week after that. Google reads an active profile differently from a parked one, which is why this is something to run, not a form to fill in once.

02Yours to run

The reviews

Steady and recent beats big and old. Ten new ones that name the job you want to be called for will do more than fifty from 2021. Asked after the job, never bought, never filtered.

03Yours to fix

The site behind it

Google checks whether the website says the same thing the profile claims. If the profile sells six services and the site has one page, the profile is the one that loses.

04Nobody’s to sell

How close you are

Proximity to the person typing. No agency moves your address, and anybody charging you as if they can is selling you the weather. If this is what is beating you, we say so and we do not take the money.

Everybody in this market sells the first three and stays quiet about the fourth. That is why owners keep paying, month after month, for local SEO that was never going to work.

The Nord method

Read the pack first, then work it.

Most local SEO starts by optimising something and hoping. This starts by reading the three that are already winning, so you know what you are up against before a dollar is spent.

07 Report

01 · Read

Find out what you are actually up against.

Before we touch anything: the searches that bring you work, who holds the three slots for them today, and what those three have that you do not. You get told whether the pack is winnable for you, and sometimes the answer is no.

02 · Profile

Finish the profile properly.

Categories, every service written out, the service area set to what you actually drive to, hours, photos, questions seeded. This is month one, front loaded, and you keep all of it whether you stay or not.

03 · Feed

Keep the profile moving, every week.

Google reads an active profile differently from a parked one. Six posts a month, photos off real jobs each week, your offers and seasonal specials live when they matter, and hours and services corrected the day they change. Not touched once in month one and left.

04 · Reviews

Keep them arriving, answer all of them.

An ask that goes out after the job, and every review answered within a day, including the ones that sting. No incentives, no filtering out the unhappy ones, no asking on a screen in the shop. Google banned all three in April 2026 and they lose profiles.

05 · Pack

Read the three that are winning.

We name what the top three have that you do not. Usually it is reviews and clarity, sometimes it is distance, and you are told which one it is rather than sold a plan either way.

06 · Back it up

Make everything say the same thing.

Your pages, your listings and your profile agreeing on the same services in the same area. Twelve core listings corrected in month one, then watched, because every mismatch is a reason to rank somebody else.

07 · Report

Say plainly what happened.

Calls, direction requests and searches straight off your own profile, plus everything that went out on it that month. One page, plain numbers. If a month went sideways you hear that too.

AI & GEO

When customers ask AI, be the answer.

People do not just Google anymore. They ask ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google’s AI who to call. A profile that is current and reviews that keep arriving are what those answers are built from, so the name they give out is yours, not the competitor down the road.

We wrote the whole playbook up in how to rank in ChatGPT. If you want the website answering these questions too, that is SEO in Winnipeg, and digital marketing runs the profile and the site as one system.

Questions

Map pack questions, answered.

The ones owners actually ask once they know the map is a separate fight.

What is local SEO, and how is it different from regular SEO?
Local SEO is the work that decides whether you appear in the three map results at the top of a local search. Regular SEO is about ranking the website itself in the blue links below. They share some work, but the map is decided mostly by your Google profile, your reviews and how close you are to the searcher, which is why it is a smaller and cheaper job.
How much does local SEO cost in Winnipeg?
Ours is $497 a month for Map Pack, on a three-month start and then month to month. That covers the profile rebuild, six posts a month, photos and offers kept current, every review answered, twelve listings corrected and a plain monthly report. Standalone profile management in Canada generally runs $250 to $500 a month, and almost none of it publishes the number at all.
Why does a competitor with fewer reviews outrank me on the map?
Usually because their profile is finished and yours is not, or because their reviews are recent and yours are old. Ten reviews from this quarter that name the job outrank fifty from 2021. Sometimes it is simply that they are closer to the person searching, and that one is not fixable by anybody.
Can I rank in a part of the city I do not have an address in?
Sometimes, and never as reliably as the businesses actually located there. Distance is one of the strongest inputs into the map pack. You can win nearby areas with a stronger profile, better reviews and pages that genuinely serve those areas, but you should treat anyone promising the whole city from one address as guessing.
How long before the map moves?
Profile fixes can show within weeks because the profile is read quickly. Reviews and listings take longer because they are about consistency over time. Expect movement somewhere between month two and month four, and the calls to follow the ranking rather than arrive with it.
Do I need a website for this to work?
You need one, and it does not have to be new. Google checks whether the site backs up what the profile claims, so a thin or broken site holds the profile back. If the site is the real problem we will tell you, and web design in Winnipeg is a different job with a different price.
My profile got suspended. Can you fix that?
Often, yes. Suspensions usually trace back to a keyword-stuffed business name, an address that does not match reality, or a service-area setup that claims more than it can prove. We fix the cause first and then file the reinstatement, because filing without fixing the cause is how profiles get suspended twice.
Do you need the login to my Google account?
No. We ask for manager access to the profile, which you grant and can remove at any time, and the profile stays in your name. You never hand over a password, and if we part ways you keep everything, including the work.
Can you guarantee the top three?
No, and nobody honest will. The map pack has an input no agency controls, which is how close you are to the person searching. What we can commit to is doing the three things that are in play, showing you the profile numbers every month, and telling you plainly if distance is what is beating you.
What happens after the three months?
It runs month to month. The first three are committed because nothing honest can be shown before that, and after that you can stop with no cancellation maze. The profile, the photos, the listings and the reviews are yours either way.
